Hello, my name is Wesley Ruehl. Life can be painful. Life can be overwhelming and it can be confusing at times. It is easy to become discouraged and want to give up when things are not going the way we want. But know that even though we often feel weak, in reality we have many unrealized strengths and can learn new, more effective ways of dealing with the many challenges that life throws our way.
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor within the state of Missouri and have over 20 years of experience in the field. I have worked in a variety of settings including community mental health as well as intensive outpatient treatment. My background is in working with adult clients with mood-related problems (depression, Bipolar Disorder), anxiety, anger, stress management, adjustment issues, interpersonal problems, personality disorders, and substance use issues.
I draw on a variety of therapeutic approaches to guide the counseling process and help you work toward your goals including Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Individual Psychology, Reality Therapy/Choice Theory, and Schema Therapy.
My counseling style tends to be conversational and encouraging. I focus on providing a supportive environment in which you can clarify your values, needs, and wants as well as learning healthy ways to pursue your goals as you begin making positive life choices. I believe that counseling is a team effort in which we work together to help you create a more meaningful and satisfying life. My role in this process is to encourage you in the pursuit of these goals by understanding you, challenging you, and always being respectful of you. Together we can begin to learn from the past in order to make healthier decisions in the present to hopefully create the future you want.
