My name is Kat Prior and I work with individuals and couples in order to better understand what you're struggling with and how it is affecting your life and relationships. I specialize in CPTSD/PTSD, trauma, eating disorders, anxiety, depression, mood disorders and relationships issues. I use a compassionate but straight forward approach in order to get to the inner issues that cause repeated patterns or struggles in your life. I believe that therapy is a collaboration between the therapist and client where we work together to be curious and investigate what has led you to where you are in life right now and how to begin to change and process these things in order to begin moving in the direction you want instead of staying stagnant or going backwards.
I am trained in Internal Family System (IFS), Schema Therapy, Somatic Experiencing and Eye Movement and Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). I also do Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT). However, I find the best approach is to tailor my approach and the modalities I use to each individual client. Every person is different and, as such, each client will respond differently to different modalities so I believe it is important to take a client-centered approach to therapy and individualize my technique to what works best for you.
I have been working as a therapist for over a decade now. I spent the first 9 years of my career working in a residential treatment center where I treated people with eating disorders, complex trauma, anxiety, depression and attachment/relational issues. Since then I have been working in an outpatient capacity helping clients with a wide range of struggles. My hope is to continue to help people heal from their past and understand how it is affecting their present so that they may move forward into a more self-led and fulfilling life.
